About
I’m Roberto Privitera, Sicilian by birth, based in Bologna.
I have been photographing for over twenty years, and I shoot portraits: in the studio, in people’s homes, outdoors. I started because I enjoyed it, and that never changed. In that time I have photographed hundreds of people — professional models and people who had never stood in front of a lens before.
To get better I studied, and I chose carefully who to study with: mostly post-producers and retouchers, some internationally known, rather than photographers. That is where I understood how much of an image is decided after the shot, and how much has to be planned before it.
I trained as a computer scientist: a degree, two master’s programmes, and years spent running projects around the world — France, Korea, Turkey, Malaysia. What stayed with me is the habit of taking things apart to see how they work, which turned out to be more useful in photography than I expected.
